Hello everyone!

bronto: If you have some stable server space..How would you feel about letting me give a shot at writing an online manual, Kinda like "Clarks" for the 928?

It would be best, I think, to keep everything on the same server if possible.

I'd bet that Joomla (what this site is based on) has a "book" content module that would fill the need. Or just a wiki module.

Yes, I have plenty of hard drive space available so hosting the old site as static HTML will certainly work.

As for Solreaver's suggestion of an on-line manual you're welcome to do that also. There was a blogging module for Joomla/Community Builder (what this site is running on) but it hadn't been updated to work with the current version of Joomla yet. There's another commercial product that looks nice and is pretty cheap that I'd be willing to install if there's interest in it.

Is there a way to lock down the old site? I really don't want to copy it again. It took almost a week, believe it or not. I think the final size of the files was 2.25gb

I think a wiki would work better for the manual. A blog would do OK, but it would likely be editable only by Solreaver. A wiki should be editable by anyone with permissions (I'm guessing, as I've not worked with Joomla). And it would be really cool if comments could be added to each page. That would be a convenient way to allow non-permissioned people to add their own tips & tricks to each page/topic.

I like the idea of a wiki. It looks like there are a couple Joomla modules that are supposed to integrate MediaWiki into Joomla so I'll investigate those. I want to try and keep everything tied in with Joomla/Community Builder so you don't need separate logins for different site features. That gets very old, fast.

Also, all users should have (I think) the "submit link" and "submit article" link on their User Menu to the left. These can be used for adding articles to the main site and (obviously) adding links to the Links section on the top nav bar.

As for locking down the old site, you might want to check with Dr. Bob. I'm unsure who the admins are over there but they could at least post something asking for people to stop posting even if they can't disable posting.

Yes, I have those links. You're absolutely right about having a unified login. I've done several CMS sites and multiple logins are a non-starter, don't even bother.

My recommendation would be to use a "native" wiki module, if there's one available. Integrated 3rd party ones will tend to break when CMS itself or the 3rd party system gets updated.

Will there be anyone at Sharktoberfest to take a DVD of the archives?
